The Importance of Movement Now

As the holiday season approaches, it's tempting to let your fitness routine slide. Many of us fall into the mindset of ‘holiday calories don’t count’ or ‘more rest days during the holidays don’t count’. Unfortunately, your body doesn’t know it’s the holidays and the same rules apply as always!

A study from the University of Liverpool found that just two weeks of inactivity can lead to early signs of cardiovascular disease.

Of course, we’re all human; balance is necessary and enjoying the holidays with family and friends is important, but thinking ‘I’ll wait until after New Year to start working out again’ or even worse ‘after Tet!’, can actually have significant effects on your body. As stated earlier, just two weeks of inactivity will lead to the body showing signs of cardiovascular disease.

So what to manage this over the holidays?

Stay Active

Incorporate short bursts of activity into your day. Whether it’s taking a brisk walk during your lunch break, doing a quick workout at home, or attending a class at KBF, staying active can help counteract the effects of a busy schedule.

Find Enjoyable Activities

Choose exercises you enjoy to make movement feel less like a chore. Dancing at holiday parties, playing sports, or joining family walks can all keep you active while having fun.

Commit to Consistency

Even a small amount of daily exercise can significantly impact your overall health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week.

By staying active now, you’ll not only feel better during the holidays, but you won’t lose your moment and will set a positive tone for the new year ahead!
